Welcome to the new season at 3GT!

We can’t wait to see you in our classes, at our readings and supporting our development program.

THIS IS WHERE WE ARE!

We’re so excited to be working together to support a wonderful cohort of twelve emerging women+ playwrights in 2023-24. At a time when so many theaters in the Bay Area are closing, we at 3GT have decided to do less (a little!) and do it better! We are committed to our mission of putting women+’s work on stage where it belongs! And we’re humbled and encouraged that so many others support our mission.

WE’RE DEVELOPING PLAYS:

We're proud and excited to announce that we’re naming our new development program (announced last year) in honor of our Founding Executive Artistic Director, AJ Baker! Our 2023-24 Founder’s Fellows are: Marcia Aguilar Kailan (La Mamá Chingona), Victoria Erville (Tell’n Tales & Roll’n Eyes) and elaine magree (AC/DC). Each of these playwrights will be supported with a development workshop this fall or winter. Their revised play will be read at our next New Works Festival in 2025. Join us in congratulating our inaugural Founders Fellows. We can’t wait to see where these plays go next and are excited to present them to the public and potential producers at our next Festival.

WE’RE PRESENTING PLAY READINGS IN SAN FRANCISCO:

Our 3GT Reading Series will present eight playwright’s work in twice monthly readings at the Phoenix Theater from March - June in 2024. We’ve combined the Salon Series and LezWritesBTQ Series into a single, mighty program. Ensuring that all our playwrights are provided with the same resources and opportunities for professional growth and play development. This season you’ll see plays by Elizabeth Flanagan, Susan-Jane Harrison, Mercilee Jenkins, Margery Kreitman, Kimberly Ridgeway, Troy Rockett, Cathy Midori Stonie, and Phaedra Tillery-Boughton.

Congratulations to our 2023 Brady Fellows - Kimberly Ridgeway & Cathy Midori Stonie! Both Cathy’s play In the Shadow of Mt Fuji and Kimberly’s play Soul Mates will be read at the Phoenix Theater in May 2024. We’re so excited to have them both join our cohort of emerging women+ playwrights over 40, BIPOC and/or LBTQ+. Join us in welcoming them to 3GT by coming to their readings in May and read next month’s newsletter to learn more about them both.

WE’RE DEVELOPING PLAYWRIGHT’S SKILLS:

We’ll be offering a number of professional development opportunities this fall and winter beginning with Queer Writing Class led by 3GT Legacy Playwright (and LezWrites founder), Margery Kreitman. We’ll be offering other opportunities, too, so keep reading the newsletters for further announcements!

WE’RE CO-PRODUCING:

We’re continuing to support the development of The Trees by Kristy Lin Billuni. Last year we offered her dramaturgical support and this year we’re joining with a number of other organizations to co-produce a workshop of this emerging musical. You’ll be able to see the results at our New Works Festival in 2025.

Stay tuned for other co-production announcements in 2023-24!

WE’RE ON MISSION AND COMMITTED TO DIVERSIFYING OUR 3GT COMMUNITY!:

3GTs founding mission was to support emerging women playwrights over 40. Over the years, our programming expanded to support both LBTQ/Nonbinary AFAB playwrights and BIPOC writers. In combining programs in 2023-24, we made a commitment that our cohorts going forward would be 50% over 40, 50% LBTQ AFAB and 50% BIPOC. As our cohorts become increasingly intersectional we’ve met and surpassed those percentages.

Join us live and in-person, or on your trusty screen if that feels best to you. Either way, we can’t wait to show you what we're working on now!

THIS IS WHERE WE ARE - JOIN US!

See you in 2023-24 for our latest fabulous season!

3GT is dedicated to supporting emerging women+ playwrights through workshops, readings, and development programs. This year's Founder's Fellows will have their plays showcased at the New Works Festival in 2025. Don't miss the 3GT Reading Series at the Phoenix Theater, featuring diverse voices. It's more exciting than playing Slope Game! 3GT remains committed to its mission of putting women's work on stage.

It's so inspiring to see 3GT's commitment to supporting emerging women+ playwrights, especially with the challenging theater landscape right now. The Founder's Fellows sound incredibly promising, and I'm already looking forward to the New Works Festival in 2025. Thinking about all these talented playwrights reminds me of the creative storytelling in something totally different, like the plot of the game Funny Shooter 2

Excited for 3GT's new season! Supporting women+ playwrights is crucial, especially now. Their commitment to diverse voices and play development, like nurturing those Founder's Fellows for the 2025 festival, is inspiring. 3GT's work is like a Block Breaker game, smashing through barriers for marginalized voices. Can't wait to see the readings at the Phoenix Theater! A truly exciting opportunity to witness amazing plays.

Kudos to 3GT and the remarkable 2023-24 Founder’s Fellows! It’s motivating to witness such robust backing for emerging women+ playwrights, particularly during these tough times for the arts. Nurturing and fostering new voices not only enhances our cultural landscape but also highlights the significance of sustainable funding and nonprofit frameworks within the creative industry.
