About the Event
La Mamá Chingona is a play centering Terra, a Chicana in pursuit of motherhood. Terra searches for answers and finds guidance from an unexpected Fool. The parallel story of La Malinche, known as the mother of Mexico, scorned for being a traitor and also celebrated as a hero, where she finally tells her side of the story. Using song, comedy, and ancestral knowledge, these two women discover their own freedom from colonization, villainization, and fertilization.
About about the playwright: Marcia Aguilar Kailian, MA (she/they) is a registered drama therapist and actress in San Francisco. As a bilingual drama therapist, Marcia fuses play, theater, and healing. She teaches improvisational theater workshops in San Francisco and Berkeley. Marcia also teaches Improv for Real Life, highlighting concepts of improvisation: spontaneity, listening, teamwork, and emotions, for better personal communication and reducing anxiety.
